Inspirations - "Her Name"

Lady Bird –

Lady Bird partly inspired my short film. For me, Lady Bird is a prime example of the coming of age genre and it is told through the visuals and symbolism as well as the narrative. It has had a lasting impact on me, as a young aspiring director, and I want to be able to translate my passion for the film into my short film.

Love, Simon –

Love, Simon is already a historic film but the way the film handles such a sensitive subject like coming out and shows audiences that it is okay to be who are you is highly respected. I wanted to take this and create a film on an honest experience.

In A Heartbeat –

In A Heartbeat is a short-animated film with no sound and it follows a LGBT storyline. My short film has no audio and watching In A Heartbeat allowed me to get an insight into how films can work with just the visuals and not the audio. I really appreciate how the story is told and how it can have an impact on a person’s feelings.

Edge of Seventeen –

I think Edge of Seventeen is one of the most beautiful coming-of-age films I have ever seen. It takes you on a journey that you can relate to and understand, and it shows the highs and the lows of being a teenager/young adult. For me, I want to make my main character as relatable as possible by giving her qualities and characteristics that are found in a lot of teens without it coming across as a cliché.

A Short Film About Love –

This short created an emotional rollercoaster with the little time it had. I want to do something similar. I want to create a story where the audience are rooting for the main character and they want her to be happy. Using this short film as inspiration can help me understand how to play with the audience and their emotions in the limited time I have.
